Sleep At Last

I remember the sleepless nights when my kids were little. Oh wait those nights haven't stopped, even as my kids are starting to hit the double digits and pre teen/teen stages of their lives, as my husband works nights and with summer vacation my kids are up just as late if not later than I am. Thankfully, today of all days, after few long stressful weeks I was able to sleep in. Yes, I was able to get more than 6 hours of sleep. Not consecutively, but I'll take what I can get when I can get it and I'm sure every parent agrees. My oldest spent the night at a friend's house and my youngest is spending the summer with his father. My daughter can sleep18 hours straight if you let her and luckily for me, I was in no mood to wake up her before noon. Typically, I'm up most of the night until early morning (about 2-3 a.m.) chatting with my husband while he's bored at work while entertaining the child or children that are home (if they aren't already glued to their tv's playing video games with their friends online). I usually wake up when my husband finally gets home, some mornings that could be 3 a.m. or as late as 5 a.m, and stay up with him talking about his night. I'm up in the morning between 8 and 10 a.m. just because my body is used to being up getting kids ready for school. Napping after waking up is difficult but I do try over the summer with some success for about an hour or two (if my kids are also asleep keeping the dogs from going crazy).
As we usually try to start to lay down, it's about the same time our two sugar gliders are on full rampage in their cage or in our room, flinging themselves off of the ceiling landing on one of us in bed. Nothing is scarier than finally falling asleep after being exhausted and having a small hamster sized marsupial make your face their landing zone from the top of the curtain rod. Imagine two small flying hamsters running suicides across your face and hair, shock doesn't begin to cover the feeling you get when you feel their tiny nails use your face as a traction pad.
But I digress, it was pretty enjoyable not to wake up in a panicked state wondering if I forgot an appointment or practice. Thank you Sunday for being the one day I don't feel rushed or overwhelmed. If only I can figure out how to not feel so overwhelmed during the week. When I figure it out, I'll share the secret and if anyone has figured it out, PLEASE SHARE! Now off the end my night with a nice glass of Burgundy in one of my favorite goblets.
